Sisters in Law - Career Choices for Nigerian Women Lawyers (General News)

By Boma Ozobia and Elizabeth Cruickshank
Sisters in Law is about the careers of some of the most impressive women lawyers in Nigeria, what is most important to them, how they came to be lawyers and what advice they would give to young lawyers starting out at the beginning of their legal careers.
Intended for law students and young women lawyers, Sisters in Law has additional chapters on how to qualify as a legal practitioner in Nigeria, and the various careers open to women lawyers. But it will also appeal to anyone who is interested in Nigeria's women lawyers and the Nigerian legal system.
The book follows the format of Elizabeth's previous book, "Women in the Law" published by the Law Society in 2003. It contains a short history of the progress of women lawyers in the UK and Nigeria plus helpful advice for young women thinking of entering the Law. The major part of the book consists of interviews with eminent Nigerian women lawyers. Among them are founding partners of major law firms, judges at State and Federal level, the in-house counsel of major oil companies and the Director General of the Legal Aid Council in Nigeria.
Boma and Elizabeth are both past AWS Chairwomen and in an interesting example of cross-continental legal collaboration they launched their book in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
