The Lead for Women campaign has issued a letter calling on all the Labour leadership candidates to set out their own plan of action for Labour Party renewal, ensuring: equal numbers of women and men in the shadow cabinet; equal and meaningful women's representation across the whole shadow government, and across the party as a whole; issues that affect women and priorities for women voters will be Labour's priorities too.

United Nations Press Release dated 2 July 2010:
“In an historic move, the United Nations General Assembly voted unanimously on 2 July 2010 to create a new entity to accelerate progress in meeting the needs of women and girls worldwide.
The establishment of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women — to be known as UN Women — is a result of years of negotiations between UN Member States and advocacy by the global women’s movement. It is part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact.
“I am grateful to Member States for having taken this major step forward for the world’s women and girls,” said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in a statement welcoming the decision. “UN Women will significantly boost UN efforts to promote gender equality, expand opportunity, and tackle discrimination around the globe.”

I am undergraduate Lancaster University who is beginning the research for my dissertation. The topic that I have chosen to research is based on barriers and inequalities that women face in the Legal Profession. I am focusing on three areas of discussion; experiences of the recruitment and selection process, what are the opportunities and challenges faced by women and how these have changed over time and finally womens' experiences of working in different types of legal practice in Manchester and Warrington.
For my dissertation, the research consists of interviews with women of any age who are solicitors. These interviews can take place either on the phone or face to face and all discussions will be kept in the strictest of confidence. Any time that you could spare for would be greatly appriciated and will add greatly to my dissertation.
If you require anymore information from me or would like to ask me questions about my dissertation, do not hesitate to contact me. I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Regards,
Danielle Quinn

- working flexibly;
- combining a career with a family;
- returning to the profession after a career break; and
